More and more details are being discussed and determined for the 150th Anniversary Celebration on September 12th at 10 a.m.  

Royal blue tablecloths, gold colored plates, napkins, and cups have been purchased.  Balloons are ordered. Thanks to Sue Gould.  Meanwhile, Sharon Altergott has been checking out estimates for opening the cornerstone to get to the time capsule.  The first estimate was $2,800.  If you said ‘”Wow!”, so did we.  We’re checking for another option.  Will we be able to open the time capsule?  We’re hoping so.

While the outline and content of the worship service has been planned, details are continually being determined. Barb Oberly has been working with Bonnie Haase to include some of our church school children. We will follow a familiar format of scripture, main speaker, music, etc. There will be a souvenir program with a logo developed by Dolly Chamberlin.  It will be like our usual bulletin, though enriched with added historical information and a time line (thanks to Nancy Perry, who has read through dozens of old annual reports). After the service, Pastor David will dedicate our 150th Anniversary Rock and Plaque.  After which, we hope to move to the cornerstone area in front of the church where we hope to open the time capsule.  Notice the repeated use of “hope.”  As a final touch, a small reception with cake, cookies, and beverages will he held.  We have planned all this as an outdoor event on the east lawn, under a tent.   Our celebration may be moved into the church if weather doesn’t cooperate.

For added interest, we will be displaying various photos that remind us of our past.  If you haven’t looked at the tri-fold b-board at the east entrance, check it out.  Photos will be changed for the celebration. The Fellowship Hall  bulletin board with photos celebrating past years at St. Paul UCC has not been open to all members because of COVID restrictions, but coffee hours will resume in September.  Those photos will change after more church members have a chance to see them.  Gloria Helms has many more photo pages ready to be displayed when possible.

Mary Faust is spearheading our mailing of our 150th Anniversary Celebration invitation—a postcard with basic event information and a RSVP request. We hope to have past members and friends of St. Paul celebrating with us.  After 150 years we celebrate not only our church missions but the faithful people who committed to keeping our church alive and well.
